Why is the Description on the Catalogue Item locked.
Once a purchase order has been raised on a Catalogue Item, then Users are no longer able to modify the following fields,
- The Work Group
- The Level 2 Category
- The Level 3 Category,
- The Description,and
- the UOM.
This is because the description has been used in one or more Purchase Orders, which is an external document sent to a vendor, and therefore must be traceable to the original document generated.
If the description (or UOM) needs to be changed, the the Catalog item shoud be made "Inactive" and a new Item created with the new or corrected description. See also How do I replace a Catalogue Item Name?
